2018 Mountain Skills Training

We will be running a series of Mountain Skills Training Programmes in Spring 2018. These outdoor programmes will be delivered at Gartan OETC, Church Hill, County Donegal, only 20 minutes drive from Letterkenny.

The Mountain Skills Training Programmes are accredited by the National Governing Body (NGB) Mountaineering Ireland and are ideal for anyone wishing to acquire the knowledge and skills to feel safe and confident navigating hills and mountains.

The Mountain Skills 1 (MS1) and Mountain Skills 2 (MS2) programmes are generally run over two-day periods and comprise a mixture of indoor informal lectures/discussions and outdoor practical sessions. The programme will appeal to hillwalkers, members of walking groups, Community Group leaders, Scout and Girl Guide leaders and anyone who loves the Great Outdoors.

Participants require a reasonable level of fitness and ideally some experience of hill walking.

Participants can book a single MS1 or MS2 training session although it is advisable to have completed MS1 training before embarking on MS2 training. The ratio for instruction is one instructor to six candidates.
