What else?

Specialist Courses

Essentially you can do anything at Gartan. We have opted not to have an annual calendar of  specialist courses as, in our experience, dates set don’t always suit those who might be interested. Specialist courses, whether at beginner or more advanced levels, accommodate smaller numbers because of, well, their specialist nature!

So, if you would like to join a course as a beginner, or develop your current level of skill and knowledge, please do contact us. You can book a group of friends, book an instructor all for yourself, or simply leave your name and your interest and we’ll contact you with possible dates once we have enough to provide a course.

Examples of such courses include: Introduction to any of the activities listed on our Activities page; Skills development any activity; National Governing Body personal skills or leadership/instructor award courses – and many others.

If you have an idea or an aspiration, we can most likely help! Our staff are highly trained and experienced in skills development and are very encouraging and supportive. Do contact us!

Conferences

Our Boathouse is really popular for small conferences and seminars. This beautiful, cosy building, of wood and stone, has superb views over Gartan Lough and the Derryveagh Hills beyond.

We can provide all necessary supports for your conference or meeting, including refreshments and lunch.

Mountain Biking and Cycling Skills

Gartan OEC has recently introduced mountain biking to our comprehensive list of activities. Our fleet of Specialized Hardrock mountain bikes is perfect for developing off road and biking skills. We have also been developing a skills training track and a trail on Gartan Estate, for use by all our mountain biking and cycling courses.

During the summer, we will also be providing Safe Cycling Skills days for young people and families. These will commence in July, so watch out on Latest News for more details!

Colmcille Heritage Centre

Colmcille Abbey and Cross, Gartan

The Colmcille Heritage Centre is on our wild and rambling estate. The Heritage Centre tells the story of Colmcille, our local saint born in Gartan in the 6th century AD. It is located on the main avenue, the first building you come to, about 100 meters from the Boathouse and the same again from the main Centre. It’s well worth visiting. Visit the website at www.colmcilleheritagecentre.ie for information and opening times.
